Scio is situated on Thomas creek, one of the tributaries of the Santiam, and between the north and south forks of that river. This is one of the oldest towns in the State, the first settlement having been made in 1848. The present population is about 500, and the property is assessed at about $80,000. Excellent water power is afforded by a race constructed from Thomas creek. The narrow gauge railroad passes within one mile of the city. The country tributary to Scio, as a trading point, is quite extensive, and embraces an area of good farming and grazing lands.
